Most design systems don't die from neglect. They die from scope creep — too many components, too many exceptions, and a maintainer who left two quarters ago.
Components are cheap. Governance is expensive.
We keep the component count deliberately low, and invest heavily in the rules around them. Tokens, usage docs, adoption metrics — the boring stuff that decides whether the system survives.
